PROGRAM SNAPSHOT
In 2018, Adventures Without Limits teamed up with Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection and the Oregon Health and Outdoors Initiative to host our first ‘Adaptive Camping’ program in Milo McIver State Park. Our goal was to increase access to the mental, physical, and social health and healing that nature provides for members of our community with spinal cord injuries.
Following this pilot project, we have hosted more than 20 CampAbility programs in state parks throughout the Coastal Region, Central Oregon, and Willamette Valley, expanding partnership with OHSU’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), David’s Chair Outdoor Mobility Systems, FACT Oregon, Shriners Childrens Hospital Portland, Disability Equity Center, Oregon Adaptive Sports, and more. Thanks to the generous support of our friends at REI, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, and Oregon State Parks, we continue expanding opportunities for people with disabilities to camp, while building community centered in nature. See the videos below for a glimpse into the impact of this project.
